Abstract

The accelerated digital transformation of contemporary economies has elevated information systems to a central position in enhancing organizational performance and competitiveness. Modern enterprises increasingly rely on diverse categories of information systems—from Transaction Processing Systems (TPS) and Management Information Systems (MIS) to integrated platforms such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Supply Chain Management (SCM)—to streamline operations and ensure coherent data management across departments. These systems facilitate the automation of processes, improve the accuracy of information flows, and strengthen managerial decision-making by providing timely analyses and performance indicators. As a result, organizations can achieve higher productivity levels, reduced operational costs, and improved customer interaction and retention. Despite these advantages, the implementation of information systems presents challenges, including significant financial investments, the need for continuous personnel training, internal resistance to organizational change, and exposure to cybersecurity threats. This study highlights both the strategic benefits and the inherent limitations of adopting information systems within modern enterprises. It concludes that the integration of advanced information technologies constitutes a crucial factor for sustainable development, adaptability, and long-term success in an increasingly digital and competitive business environment.
