dc.description.abstract This paper analyses the role of reversible garments as a fundamental ecodesign strategy within the transition to a circular economy. In an industry dominated by linear consumption, the concept of Design for Longevity (DfL) emerges as an important solution for reducing environmental impact. The article explores the dual nature of this concept, addressing both physical longevity—supported by advanced assembly techniques and high-precision finishes—and emotional longevity, derived from the aesthetic versatility of “2-in-1” products. The theoretical analysis demonstrates that, although the manufacture of these items involves higher initial resource consumption and greater technological complexity, the overall carbon footprint across the product life cycle can be significantly reduced by decreasing the need for multiple purchases and extending the period of use. The paper also identifies current barriers, such as the recycling difficulties associated with multilayered structures, and proposes the integration of technological innovations, such as Design for Disassembly, as a possible solution. The conclusions highlight that reversible garments represent more than an aesthetic trend; they constitute a model of resource efficiency aligned with the principles of slow fashion and the need to create timeless, durable apparel. en_US
