Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of the role of Sustainable Development Goal 9 (SDG
9) in the formation of an effective waste management system in the Republic of Moldova on the example of the trade sector. On the basis of analysing the dynamics of municipal waste generation and recycling, the structure of environmental protection costs of trade enterprises and accrued environmental payments, conclusions are drawn about the current state and challenges in the waste management sector. The results of the study highlight the importance of infrastructure modernisation, development of waste sorting and recycling systems, as well as integration of environmental standards into the activities of trade enterprises in order to achieve sustainable development. The need for an integrated approach to the protection of all components of the environment and strengthening measures to reduce the negative impact of economic activity on the ecological system was noted and ways of improving were recommended.
