Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to assess the level of self-sufficiency in vegetables of the Republic of Moldova. This investigation was made possible by using the following methods: analysis, synthesis and comparison. The work carried out in this field, as well as the statistical reports of the National Bank of Moldova, were used as an information base. According to the results obtained, we note that the Republic of Moldova was not self-sufficient in tomato and cabbage production during the analysis period and it was necessary for the remaining 20% to be completed through imports. On the other hand, in 2020, 2021 and 2023, the domestic production of cucumbers and other vegetables corresponded to the consumption requirement, the indicator level exceeding 80%. The remaining approximately 20% was covered by imports, thus contributing to increasing the competitiveness of local products and diversifying the offer for consumers in the country.
