This line is the first graph of an equation and was stated in 1638 by R. Descartes. In the paper, the loop in quadrant 1 is examined, the equation of the asymptote is deduced, the vertical tangent to the graph and local extreme points are found. The parametric equations and the equation of this line are obtained in polar coordinates. Finally, the drawing of Descartes' folium is sketched.
